Here is a zircote 000 trimmed in the same mystery wood that the neck is made from. For the right to say you are a wood whiz, name the neck wood.

I don't know why there is so much red. I paid for zircote and Bob C said it was zircote when he sent it. I wonder if that rascal substituted BRW. Anyway, thanks guys. I think I am going to really like the light neck on this body. One of the advantages of having clients with definite ideas is that you get to try stuff you would not have otherwise tried. Almost always it turns out good and it does push you out of your comfort zone as a builder. |

I got ahold of some really nice quartersawn curly ash that looks a lot like that, enough to make backs and sides with matching necks for several guitars. I haven't gotten around to building with it yet, but I'm looking forward to it. It's exceptionally beautiful wood, and I've little doubt it will make great sounding guitars. So, yeah, I recognized your neck wood right away, but I'm guessing most people will wonder what that gorgeous, shimmering blonde, curly, exotic wood is! |

OK Dale I will document with pics how I do this neck joint. You will not be impressed. It's all about easy joints with little fiddling and little true "craftsmanship" Seem like everytime I plan and measure and worry about a joint, it just does not fit. If I build this neck joint, "in place" as it were, it seems to be goof proof. you will see what I mean but it may be a week or so. John |

It's a very thematic guitar Bob. All the wood so far is either zircote or ash. rosette, both overlays, dark purfling lines, neck laminates, all zircote, (or BRW, only you know for sure) All of the lighter woods, including purfling lines and binding are curly ash. The only thing not of those two woods is the fingerboard and that is ebony. I wish I had a thick enough piece of zircote for a bridge. John |

John, what species of Ash is that? Taxonomic name please if available. The common species in the UK Fraxinus excelsior. But I know you guys call trees by different names (eg Sycamore )

Colin This is a Fraxinus but I don't know the species name. There are several species of ash growing in these parts, common names like green ash, pumpkin ash, black ash...et al and I have no clue which of those it is. John |
